Fighting tooth and claw!
With sharp claws and powerful jaws, Muaka is a fierce tiger-like beast - and Kane-Ra's sharp horns make him just as dangerous! When wearing infected masks, they are among Makuta's most powerful servants. But if the Toa can remove the Rahi's masks, the beasts can be tamed. Squeeze Muaka and Kane-ra's mid-section and their heads extend out with snapping fangs to knock off each others masks. Includes both Muaka and Kane-ra. Each measures 12" tall and 6" wide.

These huge, terrifying beasts obey Makuta's every command. But they can also fall out with one another: squeeze Muaka and his head extends and can knock off Kane-ra's mask. Two figures in each set - plus two infected masks. Build the two together and create an even bigger beast.

Set Information

The set packaging

The Muaka & Kane-Ra set was released in 2001 as one of the five Rahi sets. The set consists of 647 pieces.

One Muaka and one Kane-Ra are built from the set. While structurally similar, they are two different creatures and so have different details. The tiger-like Muaka is yellow, and has ear-like structures on its head and claws on its feet. The bull-like Kane-Ra is red, and has horns on its head and hoof-like feet.

An alternate model for the set also exists, depicting a Kuma-Nui, which could be built with instructions included in the Kane-Ra's instruction manual.

Features

Squeezing the midsection of either Muaka or Kane-Ra causes their necks to extend, shooting their heads forward and snapping their jaws. This function is meant for grabbing the mask off of an opponent. Removing their masks and the rods they are attached to causes the Rahi's legs to fall off in injury. The sets feature treads instead of hind legs.

The set includes six unused ⌀13 mm and eight unused ⌀15 mm rubber bands.

Collectibles

The pins attaching the Rahi's front legs to their bodies each feature a mask. Muaka wears two Infected Hau, while Kane-Ra wears two black Noble Huna.

Reception

8538 Muaka & Kane-ra's score on Brick Insights indicates generally positive reviews. The set was praised for its action feature and complex build.

Trivia

  • In a late prototype for the set, the Kane-Ra model wore black Ruru instead of Huna. Meanwhile, the Muaka wore black Huna. This is also reflected in artwork for BIONICLE: Quest for the Masks.
