Part of a series on: BIONICLE Sets
⬢ Set Year 2001 |
Merchandise are promotional items produced by LEGO usually in partnership with third party companies to promote the main BIONICLE line. This is a list of all known merchandise produced for Bionicle. "Merchandise" here means any officially licensed physical Bionicle product that is not a set, game, or piece of traditional media. They are grouped by year and partner company. Products under "Lego" are either exclusive to Lego stores and websites, "Legoland" refers to items found in Legoland gift shops, and "Unknown" refers to a product with an unidentified producer.
Promotional items such as free sticker sheets that weren't available for traditional purchase are also included.

2001
LEGO
On September 4, 2001, LEGO announced that as of October it would be selling BIONICLE Pens through the Shop@Home feature on Lego's Website. Prior to its release of the main pen line, a Limited Edition pen appeared later in the month at 17 McDonald's in Southern California as well as in Legoland California.[1] The six Toa pens were released on Shop@Home on December 30, 2001 alongside a watch, backpack, and clock, and were later released in select stores.[2][3] These pens were produced by CDM Company.[4][5]

A set of temporary tattoos was also released in Denmark and Germany. Because the ingredients list was accidentally excluded from the packaging, some customers received allergic reactions to chemicals in the tattoos, and LEGO quickly withdrew the product and destroyed the remaining stock.[6]

In August, a limited-edition, 16-month 2002/2003 calendar was released in select department stores featuring sharp, glossy images of the Toa Nuva. Each Toa was featured twice with the last four months of 2002 were grouped on the same page. Holidays for US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico and several other countries were featured.[15]
2003
LEGO
Much as in 2002, LEGO continued to release watches and clocks from Clic Time and more pens from CDM Company through its Shop@Home site.[16][17] In addition to these, a pair of backpacks was announced in March and released in August themed around the Toa Nuva.[18] [19] Rahkshi stickers were also released in Australian editions of the LEGO Club Magazine.[20]
In July, a BIONICLE bed cover was added to the Shop@Home site, and a beach towel was added in October.[21][22] LEGO also produced a Rahkshi-themed shirt and mailed it to select fans.[23]

Colgate
In September 2003, it was announced that BIONICLE electric toothbrushes would be released in partnership with Colgate. The toothbrushes were decorated with the coloring and silhouettes of the Toa Nuva and came with standard Kanohi Nuva pieces that could attach to transparent pieces that would clip over the brush. The toothrbrushes were compatible with any Kanohi Nuva.[24][25] Originally, all six Toa Nuva were supposed to have toothbrushes released, but those of Pohatu, Kopaka, and Lewa were never released and only exist as samples.[26]
Burger King
To promote the Mask of Light movie, Burger King released promotional BIONICLE figures representing the six Toa Nuva in the UK, each of which contained sticker sheets. The sets were each unique. Pohatu was featured in a sculpture that could shoot a disk by pressing a button on the back. Lewa was represented by a large Miru Nuva the back of which, when looked into, showed pictures of Takanuva. Gali was a figure that could glide up and down due to a magnet inside. Tahu was depicted riding a lava wave. Onua was mounted on wheels and could be shot from a launcher. Kopaka slid back and forth on a mound of ice.[27]
Legoland
With the debut of the Bionicle Blaster ride, LEGOLAND auctioned a promotional tie-in on ebay featuring a spinning, glowing top and a poster with the Mask of Light and Bionicle Blaster logo.[28]
At the LEGO Imagination Center in Anaheim California, various promotional items could be bought or ordered over the phone. These included a krana mousepad, stickers, a shirt, a keychain, and a necklace.[29]
- Various shirts and accessories[30]
Nike
In March, a new Onua Nuva sneaker was released in the same format as the original three Toa Nuva sneakers.[18] In April, Pohatu's Kakama was also released for the shoe.[31] Then in May, Kopaka's Akaku was also released in Japan as a shoe cover, rounding out the six Toa Nuva masks; it was later released in June on Shop@Home.[32] In June a set of Onua Nuva sandals were released, compatible with the masks featured on the other shoes.[33][34]
October saw the release of Takanuva sneakers.[35] In November, fans were finally treated to the long-awaited Rahkshi shoes. These shoes came in a standard blue, although the head and spine could be removed and replaced with the other colors of the Rahkshi such as red and white.[36]
