"If a Kane-Ra charges at you, don't run. Unless you're wearing a mask of speed, you won't out run it. Stand perfectly still, arms at your sides. If it decides you are not a threat, it may break off before it gores or flattens you. If it doesn't, you won't be around to complain about the bad advice I gave you."

Kane-Ra were usually seen roaming the lands of Po-Metru, their preferred habitat. When Teridax caused the Great Cataclysm the Kane-Ra, like many other Rahi, migrated to the island above, Mata Nui. They were soon placed with Infected Kanohi and organized into his army of Rahi.

Teridax used the Kane-Ra to terrorize the Matoran for a thousand years, until the arrival of the Toa Mata. He then directed the Kane-Ra, along with Muaka, to attack the Toa in an attempt to defeat them. After Lewa had retrieved one of his Kanohi, he was knocked out of the sky by Nui-Rama, and to the ground where a Muaka and Kane-Ra were waiting. The giant beasts were attacked by Onua before they managed to harm Lewa, and the Toa retreated.

Teridax later marshalled a large force of Rahi to attack Kini-Nui while the Toa Mata prepared to confront him. The Rahi, including Kane-Ra, were repelled by the large amount of Matoran present. When the Toa Mata defeated Teridax, he released his hold over the Rahi, and they retreated, to roam around Mata Nui as they had before Teridax infected them.

Kane-Ra avoided Bohrok to the best of their ability, and when the Toa Nuva release the insectoid robots intentionally, the Kane-Ra retreated back to Metru Nui.

Mutated Kane-Ra

During their journey to one of Teridax's lairs, the Toa Metru encountered a Kane-Ra that had no legs, due to Teridax's experiments on Rahi.

A creature that is either a mutated Kane-Ra or an Artakha Bull has been sent by an unknown party to guard the map dug under Metru Nui by the Blade Burrowers.

Abilities and Traits

Kane-Ra are capable of extending their necks a great distance, and use this ability to great effect as a defense mechanism. They are also very fast, and rely on their sharp horns and the element of surprise. Many Matoran made the mistake of thinking that because a Kane-Ra was far away, there was no danger. Their ability to extend their necks means one can never be sure where an attack will come from. They are incredibly territorial, as several Nui-Jaga have discovered. Under most circumstances, they won't attack if one keeps their distance; but if one gets too close they will surely attack.

Set Information

A Kane-Ra set was released packaged with a Muaka in 2001. With the Muaka, the set contained 647 pieces. When the set's midsection was squeezed the head would jab forward as the mouth opened, then quickly closed. This was advertised as a way for Kane-Ra to battle with a Muaka or with a Toa Mata set. The masks were attached to rods on the shoulders which when removed (as was intended to occur when a Muaka set grabbed the mask in its jaws) would cause the legs to fall off as if in injury. The set contained additional instructions to combine the parts of the two and create a Kuma-Nui.

Quotes

"It must be remembered that Kane-Ra are brave and bold to the point of being unstoppable and well near suicidal. Put a wall in front of them, they will go through it... Put a canyon before them, they will try to jump it..."
The Shadowed One, Dark Hunters

Trivia

  • The Madu Cabolo releases a foul smelling gas which is a repellent to the Kane-Ra.
